Favorites-ish from Jody Feldman

So.
This month we’re each supposed to write about our favorite book.
Well.
If you’ve ever been at any of my school visits, you’ll know I pretty much don’t have any favorite anythings. It’s not that I’m a curmudgeon who finds fault with everything. It’s more that I like many things. Take food, for instance.

I love pizza. I love salad. I love cookies. I love watermelon. But picking a favorite food is like choosing between apples and oranges. Anyway ...

When a kid's question starts with a What’s-Your-Favorite ... I have to first explain why I won’t give them a definitive answer. And now that you know the why, I’ll do what I do with my audiences.
Instead.
I give them a list and warn that the list might completely change tomorrow. Or in two minutes.

So.
Here are some book I particularly love for what they've taught me, how they've inspired me, challenged me, drove me and/or for the mere reason they've given me pure pleasure.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl
Bringing the Boy Home by N.A. Nelson
When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead
The Whipping Boy by Sid Fleischman
Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko
The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin
Rules by Cynthia Lord
The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brain Selznick
Princess Academy by Shannon Hale
Aurora County All-Stars by Deborah Wiles
No More Dead Dogs by Gordon Korman
Clementine by Sara Pennypacker

  1. You've given me a good reading list here, Jody! I've read a bunch of your favorites but not all of them, and now I'm intrigued!

  2. I love reading lists; even read down the Florida list this year. When I get to a library or a bookstore, I do the equivalent of stammering, trying to pick out what I want to read next. With a list, I have my instructions.
