How Faith + Hard Work Go Together—and Why They Should (Guest Post by Brittany Druker)
Have you ever stared at an assignment, a blank page, a soccer field, or a stage and felt your heart thump with that wild mix of excitement and nerves? That’s the moment right before something amazing can happen—the space between dreaming and doing. For me, that’s often a tough spot, one where I can freeze.
But here’s the secret: every single writer, athlete, artist, or dreamer you admire has stood in that very spot. The difference isn’t that they never felt scared—it’s that they found a way to move forward anyway. For me, that “way” is a mix of faith and hard work. Some people say, “do it scared.” I say, “do it with faith.”
Faith isn’t just crossing your fingers and hoping for the best. It’s the voice inside that says, “Go ahead, try. You might surprise yourself.” Sometimes, it’s a quick prayer before you start, or a deep breath that calms the buzz in your stomach. Sometimes, faith is simply believing that your effort matters, or that your presence is needed—even if you can’t see the finish line yet. It’s trusting that life is good, even in moments of uncertainty.
Faith is wonderful on its own, but its real power comes when it’s partnered with action. Action is what you do with your faith. It’s writing the first sentence, signing up for the audition, or raising your hand in class. It’s sweaty palms, a racing heart, and the courage to say, “I’m in.” Every time you show up—even when you’re nervous or unsure—you prove to yourself that you can do hard things.
Here’s the coolest part: When faith and action team up, blessings happen. Sometimes, your leap lands you exactly where you hoped. Sometimes, things go sideways and you learn something unexpected. And sometimes, the answer to your hope comes in a way you never saw coming—a new friend, a fresh idea, or a story twist you didn’t plan (like a storytelling collective coming to life).
Faith and action inspired my new book, My Guardian Dear. It’s about trusting in what you can’t always see, and putting in the effort, the hard work, to make good things happen. It’s for anyone who’s ever wondered, “Can I really do this?” (Spoiler: Yes, you can. Even this article—and the word “Author” after my name—is proof.)
So, here’s my challenge to you:
What’s something you’ve wanted to try, but haven’t started yet? What would happen if you mixed a little faith with a little action—and just went for it? Maybe it’s writing your own story, sending that note to an old friend like the boy in My Guardian Dear, joining a club, or sharing your art with someone new. Whatever it is, can you do it with faith?
Tell me in the comments: What leap are you thinking about taking with faith? What helps you push past the nerves and get started? I’d love to hear your stories—because every blessing begins with a step of faith. And if you’re looking for a story that celebrates faith, effort, and the wild, wonderful things that happen when you move forward with connected action, I hope you’ll check out My Guardian Dear.
