When a Jedi Master Gets It Wrong...
by Charlotte Bennardo
Okay, I'm going to disagree with Yoda. His advice, "Do, or do not. There is no try." But that's EXACTLY what Luke Skywalker did; he kept trying until he mastered being a Jedi. NO ONE does something for the first time (like levitate a spacecraft) and is immediately successful. But he was PERSISTENT. Didn't the younglings practice their skills until they mastered them? Didn't we keep on trying to ride that bike until a parent let go and we rode? Don't we write and revise and write and revise (sometimes ad nauseum) until we get it right? That's persistence. And that's what kids can learn from Luke, from books and stories, and from life.
So, sorry Yoda. You're wrong. (And I'll bet HE had to practice his swordsmanship and moving things with the Force too! That is persistence.)
