Girl at the Gate Writing Prompt

One of the first writing workshops for kids I ever did was way back in November 2008 for Girl Scouts troop 182, with my friend Lori Ditoro. Here are some pics as posted by the Girl Scouts. (I'd sold my first novel, but it wouldn't hit the shelves for another 14 months!)

I gave the girls several writing prompts that day, but the one that generated the most interesting responses was a poster of a photograph of my then 11 year old niece:

Who is the girl? What does she see? What does she want? What is she afraid of? What happens next?

If you choose to write something after this prompt, I would love to read (and share on my blog!) your efforts! Email me: irene (at) irenelatham (dot) com.

  1. I LOVE the idea of a visual prompt--and this photo's fantastic!

  2. I love the photo, too - how she's peeking around the door, both curious and apprehensive - like all of us when we start writing.
