Celebrating the Twelfth Day of Christmas - Giveaway from Christine Brodien-Jones

* Giveaway ended midnight January 6th ~ Winner is Irene Latham! *
(chosen using random.org)

El día de Reyes (The Day of Kings), otherwise known as the Twelfth Day of Christmas, falls on January sixth.  Still celebrated in Spain, it is a festival where gifts are exchanged by friends and family.  There are processions of the Three Wise Men in the cities, with music, dancing, singing, candles, firecrackers and lots of sweets (candies) tossed to the children by the Kings and their helpers, usually seated on grand carriages.

Before going to sleep, kids put milk and biscuits next to the Christmas tree for the Three Kings and leave out water for their camels. They also place their best shoes on the windowsills and fill them with straw, carrots and barley for the donkeys of the Three Kings.  The next morning, they wake up to find presents have been left overnight by the three Magi.
In the spirit of the Three Kings, I’m giving away a signed hardcover copy of THE OWL KEEPER, a dystopian novel for middle grade and teen readers. Comment to win! The drawing will take place on January 6, 2013, the Day of the Three Kings.

  2. Happy New Year, Holly!

I love the cover art, too. This past November I was lucky enough to meet up with the artist (Fernando Juarez) in Madrid. He's also drawing the cover for my next book, "The Glass Puzzle," and he presented me with his original sketch for the book!
