The Kindness of Readers

As a writer, I'm all over the place: I write poetry, nonfiction, fiction. I like historical, sci-fi, contemporary, fantasy, romance. You'll find animals and science and wordplay in my books.

I've often thought of myself as a Renaissance Girl, or a polymath. I just have so many passions!

Which makes it difficult to "brand" myself as an author. There's no pithy subtitle on my website claiming I offer "Books about X." Because my X is "everything & the kitchen sink!"

But recently a reader gave me a gift. She said that all of my books are about KINDNESS.

And I thought: Hmmm. Wow. Thank you!

And THAT reminds me of my Tuesday 2-Minute Writing Tip 33 "What is Success? (For Writers)." Because it's short, and it's also about a lot of things, including kindness:

kindness to ourselves as writers

ways to offer kindness to the authors who create books we enjoy

I couldn't be more grateful for the kindnesses that have been offered to me.

This whole writing thing? Ultimately it's about CONNECTION. Writer and reader reaching toward one another.

Thank you.
