I've Been Framed!!!

 by Charlotte Bennardo

Our theme word is "framing." Now I could talk about how we frame our writing around an outline, or an event, or an object, or a person.

But that word brings to mind darker images...

No, I've never been in jail.

My brother and I were jumping on the new picnic table my father spent all the previous weekend making. Of course Dad came home early from work that day. My brother never warned me. He jumped down and ran-I got caught. He essentially framed me for what was HIS idea. (He's a year older.) And I wasn't smart enough to figure out how to frame him for anything.

I still remember the punishment: a smack on the bottom which my brother didn't get even though I told Dad it was all brother's idea. I think my Dad said, "I didn't see him jumping on the table."

Strange how ordinary words can conjure up strong emotions and memories.

Don't ask me about driveways...
